Hmm, the answer to my question is 'since 1840' apparently, according to dictionary.com
So, is this because you're reviewing a paper? My last reviewer told me to remove my split infinitives.
And yes, they really are wordy, those word verification thingies
I am actually doing a technical edit of our current textbook-
"Using Lewis symbols, diagram the reaction between magnesium and oxygen atoms..."
So I guess it is technically correct, but it sounds kind of pratty...
