This sucked me in enough that I had to google the title of my blog. The front search page didn't actually use the terms in the same way as in the comic. But they should have! If it doesn't exist it should.

"Matryoshka limit" is a joke referring to Matryoshka dolls (or Russian dolls as they are commonly known), which are crafted to be contained within one another. The standard set is 6 dolls.
I just couldn't resist adding to the cyber-buzz around this page from people following xkcd. This is probably some kind of brand new socialogical phenomenon whereby thousands of people are directed to the same erroneous place, each additional person making it more likely that the next is similarly misdirected. Chaos theory...
I believe the joke is twofold - not only are there 6 dolls in a standard set of nesting dolls, but 37 angstroms (1 angstrom = .1 nanometer) is the smallest we can possibly get. Note how instead of an actual layout we instead see a series of atoms layed out in the rough approximation of the layout.
I feel good being here. It's like an unexpected tourist destination for XKCD fans.

I expect this to be a blip in an otherwise anonymous blog. If not, I'll feel obliged to "clean house". sweep the floor, plump the cushions, straighten the seats. It's a bit like having a crowd in your house when you usually leave clothes lying around & your papers on the floor. I may actually feel obliged to update my links list. (Possibly even put XKCD on it finally).
I think it's wonderful that geeks now have access to a neologism engine for geek-specific concepts. I mean, the Internet has always been a neologism engine (c.f. "Internet memes"), but now there's one for geeks!
I also think it's wonderful that the Matryoshka Limit value varies by the size of the thing being modeled, and I wonder if it would be more useful (or an over-elaboration of the concept) to speak of "the Matryoshka Limit for H0" or "the Matryoshka Limit for N" or what have you.
I guess Google has learned that this page is the most desired destination for "Matryoshka Limit" searches. And like some sort of self fulfilling prophecy type occurrence, it is right.
I'd be interested in seeing a graph depicting the number of visits to this page since it's conception and it's location on the Google search page for each date.

Same here, although I knew what matryoshka limit stands for, I decided to check out the web. Google loves this blog ;)
In practice though, 6 is not the standard with matryoshkas.. Typical sets can be from 3 to 12, and I've heard of sets with more than 20 ;)
